Upgrading from VDSL to Fibre @VodafoneNZ @ChorusNZ

Six months ago I applied for Fibre upgrade from VDSL. Existing VDSL is old school on copper wire overground post to house soffit. I have requested Fibre to go underground and I have installed a 32mm conduit under lawn adjacent to driveway from my boundary to under my house (approx 10 metres) to accommodate this connection. I even put a draw string in there. Basically 90% of the job has already been done by me. @ChorusNZ have been round twice to assess the job complete with photos and I have discussed it all with them both times. It is a VERY simple layout and job. I will even assist under the house.

As for work outside my property, the most logical move involves a straight line dig of a MAXIMUM of 2.5 linear metres across the berm (depending exactly where the fibre line is under the berm) to the conduit at the boundary. Under my house is a further 10 metres or so to the desired location in the kitchen, so about 23 metres of fibre all up.

My ISP is @VodafoneNZ and they have now sent a quote for the best part of $1000. Do they think I came down in the last rain shower?

Thoughts?

thanks

frank

PS: Existing VDSL is serving up a solid 70mb/s + download speed, so I'm really wondering whether to even bother, other than predicting a suspicious speed drop sometime in the future to force my hand..
