Use Orbi in place of HG659 on gigabit fibre (Dunedin) - VLAN tagging?

Evening everyone - my first post after a long lurk :-)

Has anyone had experience of setting up Netgear Orbi in place of a Vodafone HG659?

My HG659 is resolutely stuck on firmware v20. Under Maintenance > Device Management there is no Firmware Update option - the only options are Reboot and Factory Restore.

Having had issues with an Apple Airport Extreme / Express wifi network before, I have changed to a Netgear Orbi RBK50 Router and satellite system (big house, thick walls, and I can only do simple!). According to Netgear, VLAN tagging is possible on the Orbi so it looks like I could potentially lose the HG659 and use the Orbi to assign network addresses thereby saving me a valuable power socket...

Current system: Chorus ONT - HG659 - Orbi - Orbi satellite

Proposed: ONT - Orbi - Orbi satellite

I don't have a VOIP phone line (although Vodafone do appear to be charging me for one...) so I don't need to plug a phone in to the Orbi. If I got rid of the HG659 I can devolve some other ethernet connections to the satellite, including the Sonos bridge, printer etc thereby reducing clutter and getting space back in the 'tech corner'!

Has anyone managed to do this? It looks like it should be possible, but not the same as IS possible!

Cheers in advance

b
