Moto G7 International in NZ - band 28 importance?

$

Considering upgrading my wife's Moto G5 to a Moto G7 as the current one has had a hard life and is starting to fail. The Moto G7 on Amazon doesn't list 4G band 28, but does list band 3 and 7 (Vodafone frequencies here).

Not sure if it has 4G band 28. This site and this site both say it does, and both the cheaper Play and Plus editions include it, and the G7 sold in NZ has it. I have seen that there are versions without band 28 though, so I would probably avoid it. The play / plus editions both have band 28, so not really a problem.

How important is band 28? My best guess is band 28 is has longer range, which might be more important if you're say driving between cities or in low coverage areas? We live in Wellington inner suburbs and work in Wellington city, so I doubt coverage will be an issue except maybe on holiday - and we can hotspot off my phone if we need to.

Looking to buy from the USA as it's NZ$300 plus shipping, in NZ it's $500. In NZ you get a 12 month warranty, from the USA no warranty, though I would hope that if it's DOA Amazon would replace it.

Vodafone Retention Team

Hi all,

Is Vodafone's retention team still based in NZ. For the past couple of days I was told we would be getting fibre installed instead of our current HFC connection which I stressed is not what we want.

But instead a new HFC connection term has been provisioned and our voice line switched to VOIP.

I was wanting to get fibre installed as we have it in our area too.

Any idea what to do? Need to attempt to contact rententions tomorrow and hopefully the can sort out the mess they have made for our connection.

Just wondering what everyones process has been from switching from HFC to a fibre connection as so far it hasn't worked for us.

High ping to Blizzard Gaming servers.

A few days ago I noticed that my ping while playing WoW was 180ms+ instead of the 30ms I have been getting for the last month.I just assumed that Blizzard was doing some kind of load balancing and putting the overflow onto US servers during peak times, but its continued for the last few days.I ended up running a MTR and it looks like my traffic is being routed through the US to get to the SEA (Singapore) server.I contacted Vodafone and basically got told there was nothing wrong and they would 'monitor' the situation, but after some more research it turns out its more widespread than just me.https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/high-latency-to-oce-servers-from-nz/313090/93https://community.vodafone.co.nz/t5/Broadband-services/Constant-200ms-ping-to-AUS-servers-while-gaming/td-p/227087/page/5|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|| WinMTR statistics || Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last ||------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------|| ultrahub.hub - 0 | 6 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 || *-*-*-*.telstraclear.net - 0 | 6 | 6 | 4 | 18 | 84 | 5 || No response from host - 100 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 || 10.200.12.159 - 0 | 6 | 6 | 129 | 132 | 140 | 140 || 38.88.197.206 - 0 | 6 | 6 | 128 | 131 | 143 | 128 ||te0-1-0-1.ccr41.lax04.atlas.cogentco.com - 0 | 6 | 6 | 130 | 161 | 181 | 180 || be3360.ccr42.lax01.atlas.cogentco.com - 0 | 6 | 6 | 129 | 161 | 181 | 179 || be3359.ccr41.lax05.atlas.cogentco.com - 0 | 6 | 6 | 129 | 160 | 181 | 179 || reach.lax05.atlas.cogentco.com - 0 | 6 | 6 | 130 | 131 | 133 | 130 || i-94.tlot-core02.telstraglobal.net - 0 | 6 | 6 | 131 | 132 | 134 | 131 || i-25.sydp-core04.telstraglobal.net - 0 | 6 | 6 | 152 | 154 | 156 | 155 || i-91.sydp10.telstraglobal.net - 0 | 6 | 6 | 151 | 153 | 155 | 151 || unknown.telstraglobal.net - 0 | 6 | 6 | 151 | 152 | 155 | 153 || et-0-0-49-br02-eqsy4.as57976.net - 0 | 6 | 6 | 151 | 152 | 155 | 155 || et-0-0-0-pe02-eqsy4.as57976.net - 0 | 6 | 6 | 152 | 153 | 155 | 152 || 103.4.115.248 - 0 | 6 | 6 | 151 | 153 | 155 | 151 ||________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______| WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud ProviderAs you can see the first two hops are me (Local network & Internet facing IP). 3rd hop times out (I assume blocking ICMP requests) and the 4th hop is a private address with a 129ms+ ping (I can only assume this is offshore). 5th hop is located in LA.Ideally it should be going through Sydney.I know there's nothing I can do to fix this myself (other than trying a VPN or something) but I'm hoping perhaps someone from Vodafone sees this and is able to look into it for me (and everyone else effected).I also have another question... Is there any way for me to figure out the IP address of the 3rd hop? I would like to do a whois on the address to verify its location and who owns it (assuming its a public address)

simplex account, seibel account, "customer service", and other funny stories

This is not a "Vodafone bashing" attempt - I had pretty good service from Vodafone when I needed them during the past couple of years or so.

1. simplex account and seibel account2. customer service circularity3. SKY phone number in "My Vodafone"

1.In August I had to renew my phone/broadband/SKY contract and in the process got given a new account number, say "xyz". A few days ago, I wanted to order fibre which had just now become available at my address (Titirangi).

I identified myself, giving the account number "xyz", and eventually got referred to a Vodafone sales person (I presume), let's call him "A". He was very thorough, wanting to verify all my details (fair enough, records need to be up to date), and then asked which account I was calling about: "abc" or "xyz". Of course I only knew about "xyz" (and maybe the older account from before August, but this was not "abc").

So he explained that "abc" was my "simplex account", whilst "xyz" was my "seibel account" (spelling?). Neither of us knew what that was supposed to mean. Anyway, we proceded, agreeing that I was only dealing with account "xyz", and we sorted that deal (although the promised confirmation email has not yet arrived). He ended the call by promising to get to the bottom of the "simplex account" story, and to ring back when he knew the details. About an hour later the result was in: "abc" was in a name unknown to me at an address in Lower Hutt, unknown to me. Neither of us able to understand how the system would mix us together. I suppose stranger things happen...

2. On navigating the phone menu of Vodafone, the following emerged:0800 438 448 -> welcome -> provide phone number -> choose "sales" from there I got 2 options: "sales" or "customer service" Just for fun, I chose "customer service" To my surprise, I was greeted with "welcome to Vodafone..." and the merry-go-round could probably continue forever.

3. I wanted to delete a particular KY TV service, and when I was on "My Vodafone" continued to "SKY Basic" "manage plan". This brings up a list of the services we are subscribed to, headed as follows:My Add-OnsTo add or remove channels from your plan, please call 0800 800 800

Alas, this is the phone number of Lantern Insurance who would be most unlikely to be able to help.

[Obviously, I have too much time on my hands, seeing I can be bothered by these trivia...]

Does the new Vodafone TV work on ADSL?

$

Hi all, I'm new here, (old-time geek though!) We've been trying to find out if the new Vodafone TV boxes will work on ADSL? - The recommendation from Vodafone is that they need fibre or a minimum of VDSL. The only reason being given is that they "may experience unacceptable buffering", however no one seems to have tested this. - this was the opinion of one of the shop staff. We are successfully watching the RWC, Netflix, Neon, and Sky-go without too much trouble, and while the internet stutters now and then, we cope. :)

Rural on unlimited copper, average down about 5MBPS average up about 1MBPS. - The rugby only fails when the rate drops below about 3.5MBPS.

* There are currently no options for unlimited on anything but copper where we are, and no future plans to go better than ADSL it seems.

Thanks in advance for any experiences.

Changing plans, will I get the 2nd gen Vodafone TV boxes?

I'm a Vodafone cable user. I was previously on a plan with multiple of the old T-Boxes. I decided to change my plan because it was going to be significant cheaper making a few changes to my plan. As part of this, they're insisting on swapping my T-Boxes out for Vodafone TV boxes.

Can anyone tell me if these boxes will the 2nd gen Vodafone TV, which I understand is wifi capable? Basically one of the boxes will be next to the router, and easily connected, but the other is going in a room with no wired internet (previously it had the coax cable there, but no utp to house network).

@JasonParis, @shaunm, @HamishVF, @NickR1,

I'd just like to acknowledge the great help and assistance given to me by VF staffer (and GZ member) Nick Raivaru.

Earlier this year I had suffered a small but annoying billing problem that neither several emails or telephone calls to Vodafone seemed to solve … staff churn at the time probably didn't help ??

Even though this problem was not specifically within Nick's work purview, he took ownership and had the matter corrected within hours,  and the problem has not to date returned.

Kudos to Nick and to Geek Zone ??

Vodafone door to door sales

Just had a Vodafone rep knock on door trying to get me onto their HFC network.

First thing he tries to tell me is that Fibre connections are/ or will slow down in your area.

Then asks if I've noticed any slow down, which I answered "no"

Then offers to do a free Vodafone upgrade at which point I said not interested and he went on his way.

Wonder how many people fall for the fibre is slowing down in your area story?

Help wanting to remove Vodafones Cable E.T.P

Hi Guys

I am wanting to get Vodafones e.t.p -External Termination Point- removed off the side of our house in Christchurch (old Telstraclears e.t.b)

We have Fibre installed for about a year and a half, absolutely no problems at all, best thing we did.

I have rung Vodafone to ask them today to come and remove it, but they said chorus's job or get an electricians to take it off

They have absolutely refused to do it, I wouldn't do it under any circumstances. I asked them multiple times on the phone to do it, but they just refused.

Can someone please help

Regards Gigafibre5

Broadlink RM Pro and Vodafone TV Box Gen 2

I'm trying to get my Broadlink RM Pro to run the Vodafone TV Box.

After switching off the Vodafone box, I was able to teach the Broadlink to learn each IR command from the Vodafone remote. (When the Vodafone box was paired to its remote, the Broadlink did not recognise IR signals.)

I also taught those same commands to a Harmony 350.

While the Broadlink happily operates my Samsung TV and Onkyo Receiver, the Vodafone Box does not respond at all. It will respond to the Harmony remote, which tells me that even when the box is paired with its own remote, it appears to be able to receive IR as well as Bluetooth signals.

I note that someone had a similar issue with the Gen 1 box where it didn't recognise learned IR signals from the Broadlink. Can anyone offer a solution ?

Anyone using Vodafone 'Basic Home'? wireless internet + home phone

$

My retired mother is looking at switching over to Vodafone's 'Basic Home' package, which is a 4G based service, with 60GB data provided to devices via wifi, a home landline, for about $59 a month. She uses very little data, and this sounds like it might be ideal for her, and lets her to keep monthly costs down. (she currently pays $55 for just a land line)

The only potential sticking point is that it comes with one phone, and she is used to having a second handset. Unfortunately it's not clear to me from the description on Vodafone's website whether it's possible to just get another handset and add it to the system. Vodafone don't seem to offer an extra handset.

If anyone is familiar with this, I'd love to know what general bits this setup is made up from, ie is it some GSM->wifi router and just a regular DECT (or similar) handset plugged in (which could be replaced with another set of phones), or is the SIM in the phone itself and it some how provides wifi to the house, or some thing else? Just really trying to understand a bit more clearly what this service is.

What brand of phone is it?

Thanks!

URGENT Phone lines cut by criminals

Is there anyway our block of flats can have the phone cables fixed before Monday.

My phone line is with Vodafone.

My phone display shows Check TEL line message.

Was speaking to the neighbour who has said the phone lines may have been physically cut at the green box by our gate.

She thinks it was by criminals. There is a camera in the area we will try and view the footage if we can see anything.

I am not sure who her phone provider is but she said that they are not coming to fix it until Monday.

So anything that uses an alarm system including medical alarms which some of us use, will not be working until then.

I also need the phone for my business.

Can someone at Vodafone look into it?

Thanks

4G internet on RBI - how come I can select multiple servers on Speedtest and why is upload speed so slooow...?

Hi,

Q1: I'm on 4G wireless internet (great big MIMO dual antenna on my roof) and we live in the bush in Albany (Auckland) area. I get downloads of about 20-30 mbps but my upload is a miserable < 1 mbps typically..sometimes only 0.5mbps. On rare occasions the upload will be 12-15 mbps though. (I used to be on ADSL and was getting 12 mbps down and about 1.5 mbps up.

My ping can vary a lot, but often ping is about 15-25ms.

Is Vodafone throttling the upload speed through the nearest tower?

Q2 for experts: Why does speedtest allow me to select individual servers (only one of which is Vodafone NZ) to test out my speed...? Which server is the real speed that my internet is connecting at?

USIM card status: Normal
