Make a change - Contract auto extended!

So I've got a Vodafone 3G RBI connection.

Initially it was broadband only. But after 8 months we decided it would be good to get a voice line too.

After many frustrating phone calls for what you might have thought would be an easy change (its listed as an one of two options on the rural broadband connection options) they added a voice number to the same RBI connection. The difference in charge was about $10-15 roughly per month extra.

Prior to it happening, I did actually ask (two different) CSR's to let me know how much extra per month it would cost, and details of what would be entailed, which I was promised "he" would personally provide me, before making the change. Didn't happen they just turned it on a few days later.

So far Its been alright, and the cost was reasonable, so no complaints. But here we are well year later, and the wireless broadband market has moved markedly with, Sparks BOLTE, Skinny 4G broadband, Vodafone now have 4G etc.

So calling Vodafone to see how long we had left I the contract I was disappointed to find they started a new contract when I added voice to the RBI connection, and I'm still locked in for another 18 months.

Do you think this if fair?

I supposed they have some fine print somewhere that states this? And I suppose that by going along with it (and paying the bill without dispute) for a few months, that can be indirectly seen as "contract acceptance".
